Lansdowne Avenue Assisted Housing, Toronto

A former church banquet-hall complex was revived to provide 21 apartments for post-psychiatric patients. All units in this intensely-urban building were brought to the perimeter for maximum sunlight on three sides. The remaining side, adjacent to a neighbour, was turned into a roof terrace at the third floor level, with a central light tower inserted to draw daylight down to the shared cores of the other floors.
